06 — Essentials

Everything you would rather not have to ask.

Money, power, cards, weather, language, emergency numbers and the pharmacy that stays open all night. Short, no footnotes.

If something is not on this page, call the HairHub team: +381 62 800 2922.

Money

Dinar, not euro.

Currency
Serbian dinar (RSD), roughly 117 to the euro. You cannot spend euros in a shop.
Cards
Visa and Mastercard are accepted almost everywhere — restaurants, taxis, pharmacies, parking. American Express rarely.
Exchange
Exchange offices in the centre beat hotels and the airport. Banks close at 17:00, Saturdays at noon.
ATMs
Everywhere. If an ATM offers conversion, choose dinars, not “your currency”.

Connectivity

Internet and phones.

SIM card
Tourist SIMs are sold by mts, Yettel and A1 — at the airport, in malls and in their shops. Around ten euros buys a week of data.
eSIM
If your phone supports eSIM, buy one online before you travel and activate it on landing.
Wi-Fi
Hotels, cafés and restaurants have free Wi-Fi. At Madlenianum, ask the staff for the network.
Power
230 V, type C and F plugs — European. UK and US guests need an adapter.

Weather

Late November in Belgrade.

Temperature
Usually 8–12 °C by day, 3–5 °C in the morning. It feels colder with the wind off the Danube.
Rain
Possible, rarely all day. Bring a coat and one extra layer; leave the umbrella at the hotel.
Daylight
Sunset is around 16:00. If you want Gardoš, go before the programme or straight after.

Language

Serbian, and plenty of English.

English
Younger staff in hospitality and hotels speak English. Taxi drivers — not always; show the address on your phone.
Greetings
“Dobar dan” on entering, “hvala” and “doviđenja” on leaving. That is enough.
Script
Street signs use both Cyrillic and Latin. Place names in apps are usually Latin.

Safety and health

If something goes wrong.

Belgrade is a safe city for visitors; watch your pockets in crowds and on night transport, as in any large city. For a pharmacy, the on-duty Apoteka Zemun is at Glavna 34 — twenty metres from the theatre, open 24/7.

Nearest hospital: KBC Zemun, Vukova 9 (about 1.5 km, 5 minutes by car). For serious cases, the Emergency Centre at Pasterova 2.

Accessibility

If you need help at the entrance. Madlenianum has its main entrance on Glavna with steps into the lobby. If you use a wheelchair or have limited mobility, contact the organiser before the event on +381 62 800 2922 so the entrance and a seat can be prepared.

Three more things

01

Time

Serbia is on Central European Time (CET), the same as Vienna and Berlin.

02

Water

Tap water is safe to drink throughout Belgrade.

03

Smoking

Banned in restaurants and indoor public spaces; still common in some cafés. If it bothers you, ask for a non-smoking table.
